I started my career at the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission (PRPC) in 2008. I immediately began creating criteria for Telecommunicator training and worked hard to improve our public education program. At present, I am responsible for 9-1-1 public education, telecommunicator training, special event planning, publishing our Region's quarterly Newsletter, providing 9-1-1 addressing and facilitating Telecommunicator appreciation for 24 counties in the Texas Panhandle.
My education includes a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies, an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, a certified NCMEC trainer, TTY instructor and TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer's Standards) Instructor. Prior to working at PRPC, I was a telecommunications officer (TCO), a Deputy Sheriff, a licensed jailer and a Police Officer. Presently I work with area 9-1-1 public educators, maintain our region's social media sites, train telecommunicators to help them maintain the required TCLEOSE standards, and provide 9-1-1 Equipment Training. I am a member of the Public Educators of Texas (PET), Texas 9-1-1 Trainers (TNT), and I serve on various committees at the state and national levels that help in the implementation of programs for 9-1-1 and provide vital telecommunicator training.
My name is Melanie Davis and I am PRPC’s 9-1-1 Network Program Aide. I began my career at the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission (PRPC) in December 2010. I had served as a telecommunications officer/operator (TCO) since 2006 and desired to continue my education of the 9-1-1 system on a more in depth level. Accepting the job at PRPC has taught me so much about the mechanics of 9-1-1. My main goal is to share all of the knowledge we have with all of our TCOs. The more you know, the more you can help someone! The 9-1-1 system (Positron & Powermap) are amazing tools and there are so many things that you can do with them. I continue to serve as a part time TCO and the knowledge I have gained from working behind the scenes of 9-1-1 has truly benefitted me while I am behind the console.
I graduated from Hart High School in 2003 and began my 9-1-1 career a few years later. I have served as a TCO in Tulia, TX and Watauga, TX. I have also served as an Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher (AEMD) and communications training officer (CTO) at Medstar EMS in Fort Worth, TX. I am a TCLEOSE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education) Instructor. I am the Regional 9-1-1 Network Program Aide here at PRPC so I get to help out with a little bit of everything! I work very closely with Pamela Frisk with training. It is our goal to make training resources readily available to everyone in the region. Pamela and I have created and maintain a PRPC Facebook page, blog, training website, YouTube account, and Google+ account. I also help with Public Education, create presentations, documentation, help create newsletters, create training materials (cheat sheets), provide TCO trainings, visit PSAPS, provide addresses to rural residents, and anything else I can do to help out the 9-1-1 department. I look forward to meeting all of you. If you have any questions, no matter what they are, please call me or send me an email. Please do the same if you have any complaints or concerns. I would be happy to help you.
